  • As of 2026, our program is now a categorical program and matched applicants will complete all four years of training at The University of Chicago.
  • As we are a fully integrated categorical program, the internal medicine exposure is built into the PGY-1 year at the University  of Chicago.
  • We offer a total of TEN residents per year.
  • Yes, since 2024, University of Chicago residents and fellows unionized.
  • Our deadline for receipt of applications is December 15. Applications received through ERAS after that date will not be reviewed.
  • No, but you MUST have your ECFMG certificate available prior to the NRMP deadline for the rank order list submission.
  • A J1 visa is preferred.
  • Yes, we do accept applications from D.O. candidates, but you must include your COMLEX scores (if you have also taken the USMLE, you must submit the COMLEX and the USMLE).  While the USMLE is not required, it is strongly recommended.   
  • We do not advertise our USMLE or COMLEX score criteria. However, please note that each application is reviewed in its entirety.
  • U.S. Clinical experience is helpful, but not required. We will review applications from candidates who do not have U.S. clinical experience.
  • We choose to review each application in its entirety and we do not filter applicants based on their medical school graduation date.
  • We require THREE LORs.
  • We do not require an LOR from your Chairman.
  • We will begin interviews in late October and typically continue through early to mid December, However, we may offer interview dates in January.
  • Invitations to interview with our program will be sent via email through Thalamus.
  • A final itinerary will be provided to applicants via Thalamus in the days preceding the interview.
  • The day will begin with a Department Overview by our Chairman followed by a Program Overview by our Program Director / one of our APDs.
  • We interview 12 applicants on each day.
  • All interviews will be conducted virtually via Thalamus.
  • Yes; we will host a virtual dinner on the evening before the interview. All of our current residents will be invited to attend this dinner.
  • Our faculty will NOT be present at this virtual dinner.
  • Dress for this virtual dinner is casual.
  • Applicants who are unable to attend the virtual dinner the evening before will have further opportunity to meet and talk with one of our Chief Residents during the interview day.
  • If you are unable to participate in the virtual dinner on the evening before your interview please let us know and we will invite you to one of the other virtual dinners.
