UChicago Multidiscplinary Sarcoidosis Clinic

Sarcoidosis is a disease that causes tiny collections of immune cells in any part of the body. These groups of cells form red, swollen lumps called granulomas. Sarcoidosis granulomas can cause inflammation (swelling) and damage in organs and other parts of the body including lymph nodes, lungs, heart, bones, skin, eyes, or nervous system. In some people, only one or a few organs are affected. In other it is more widespread. Damage from granulomas leads to symptoms of sarcoidosis. People living with sarcoidosis may benefit from seeing a team of doctors with different areas of expertise in order to determine which organs are involved by the granulomas.

Our Services

  • In some cases, sarcoid inflammation involves the nervous system which includes the brain, spine, and nerves. Our care team includes a sarcoid dedicated neurologist, and the clinic is housed within the Department of Neurology.
  • The clinic experience is multidisciplinary which means that during one visit a patient sees multiple different specialists in a row.
  • The multidisciplinary model allows our team to collaborate on each patient’s evaluation and treatment plan.
