Penetrating Brain Injury

Civilian firearm-related injury is a major health concern across the world. In the United States, specifically and when compared with other high-income countries, the rates of firearm-related injuries are at a steady high. The University of Chicago Level-1 Adult Trauma Center opened on May 01, 2018, treating around 3000 patients in its first year. Of patients admitted to the ICU with severe traumatic brain injury, the majority suffered a GSW to the head. Our group capitalizes on this rare opportunity to investigate all aspects of management and prognostic determinants of one of the most poorly studied neuro-critical conditions.
