Visiting Medical Student (CGH Partner Site)

Questions

  • Contact the GHI Program Coordinator or the Visiting Student Coordinator with questions.
  • Note to applicants: A complete application does not guarantee acceptance or admission. Please do not make travel arrangements until you have received eligibility confirmation from the Center for Global Health's program coordinator and the Pritzker School of Medicine.
  • Please note that international students are covered under the UCM malpractice insurance policy.
  • Please ONLY SEND APPLICATION MATERIALS WHEN THEY ARE COMPLETE. Do not send any additional documents.

General Guidelines

  • Student must be enrolled in a CGH partner institution in order to secure a faculty sponsor at the University of Chicago who agrees to oversee the period of visitation and who will be responsible for guiding and monitoring the advance training of the individual.
  • Student must have completed all core clinical rotations (internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, ob/gyn, psychiatry, family medicine)
  • Student must currently be enrolled in his/her final year in a medical school and/or medical education program that is listed in the FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (IMED).
  • Student must be highly recommended (rated "outstanding") by his/her home institution and have an excellent academic record as demonstrated by his/her transcript.
  • Student is limited to 30 days as a visiting medical student. An extended period requires special permission from the Dean's Office, and is only an option for students from partner institutions.
  • Student may come between December and May, although clinical departments or Pritzker may impose periods during which a visiting student will not be permitted.
  • Medical students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for clinical electives.
  • Application for clinical electives must be received at least 16 weeks in advance of target start date.
  • For the purposes of this medical school elective, a B-1 visa is acceptable. Pritzker School of Medicine and the Center for Global Health do not process visa paperwork for international students. Students are required to obtain entry on their own.
